Good Afternoon Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School Families,
Students in the Senior High School only will be transitioning to “Fully Remote Learning” beginning tomorrow, Thursday, January 7, 2021. They will return to our current hybrid in-person instructional model on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 - the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day. (Students in Edward Town Middle School and all four elementary schools will continue to attend school as they currently do. This transition to fully remote learning only impacts students in the Senior High School.)
Our transition is predominantly due to the lack of substitute coverage for staff who must remain home under quarantine protocols. (Even though most staff are able to teach remotely from home, children in our buildings require classroom supervision - and we lack the substitute staff coverage for that purpose.)
All High School students should continue to engage in their current schedule, logging into their teachers’ live video stream for synchronous instruction on what would normally be their in-person days, and completing the Asynchronous Day Attendance Form and all required assignments on their opposite (asynchronous) days.
High School students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Orleans/Niagara BOCES will continue to be transported. You can expect a follow-up communication if you attend one of the CTE programs.
As a reminder, Niagara-Wheatfield continues to provide free meal pickup daily, between 11am and 1pm underneath the walkway between the high school and middle school. If you are interested in taking advantage of this food pickup opportunity for your high school student(s) impacted by this transition, please let us know on the following form to help us estimate how many meals to prepare in advance: https://forms.gle/TCfwkz5vaL4DN1L77
Students should continue to communicate with their teachers with any questions regarding remote instruction. Families may continue to seek technical support at https://www.nwcsd.org/tech and direct other non-technical questions to the building administration.
Thank you, NWCSD
